From the beginning of my career here at SkyWest, I have been and continue to be a passionate advocate for each and everyone in our work group. My motivation and focus is to speak out and address the need for updated, relevant, fair policies and procedures and quality of life enhancements.
Until approximately three years ago, I was anti-union. That is when it became crystal clear to me that management and the SIA Board need to be fair, equitable, and consistently follow company policies and procedures. They DO NOT, and no one holds them accountable.
We need transparent, fair, honest representation by a board we vote for, one that will openly communicate, adhere to, and fight for our policies and procedures. A board that fights for a great quality of life for our work group! I have held many positions during my close to twenty-four years here at SkyWest Airlines, both in management and previously on the SIA Board. I fully understand the need for a strong, outspoken representative board that advocates on our behalf outside of management directives.
The positions I have held here at SkyWest include – Service Instructor, Ground Instructor, IF Training/Recurrent Manager, Recruiting, Lead Instructor, SIA Secretary, and SIA PS and CIRP Representative. I have been and will always be honest, open, and outspoken, and an advocate for all of us, the online flight Attendants; not only for those who have just been hired but also those who have lived most of their adult lives flying for SkyWest as online attendants.
We, the SkyWest Airlines Flight Attendants, are an integral part of SkyWest, and we deserve to be appreciated, compensated, and legally represented for our irreplaceable trained skills and abilities to operate this successful airline!
My bottom line regarding "why a union,” and “why now" is that we MUST have a legally binding contract that the company and SIA cannot change, not follow, or dissolve, with the stroke of a pen, without the online Flight Attendants’ voice and vote. This is exactly what happened overnight with our COVID-19 MOAs. It happened then, and it will happen again if we do not stand together with OUR CHOICE - OUR VOICE!
