Tad Solomon - MSP

I have been a flight attendant at Skywest for 17 years. I was previously a service coordinator, and my 17-year flight attendant husband used to be an InFlight ground instructor. We were always on the fence about wanting a union. But over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a big decline in SIA and lots of corruption and coverups.

I’ve also been personally hurt by the company for not following policy. I filed a grievance with HR and SIA, and both were denied. I also talked with upper management and couldn’t get a resolution, and in fact, they admitted there were policies the company follows that we haven’t seen or agreed to! Because we don’t have a union, there’s no other place to turn to. If the company doesn’t agree with you, you’re out of luck; no one will hold them accountable.

In addition to better pay, I know a union will bring us protections and force the company to follow policies. We have friends at other regional AFA carriers; they showed us they get financial compensation when the company breaks policy, which would be huge! I also want better for our flight attendants who are on extremely long probations and scared to call off sick!

We all deserve better; if we are held accountable, so should the company.
